Lophomyrtus 'Pixie'

Growing Lophomyrtus 'Pixies' in NZ

Lophomyrtus 'Pixie' is a compact, colourful native shrub that grows well in full sun to partial shade. It thrives in well-drained, moderately fertile soil and performs best in a sheltered spot. The foliage develops rich tones of red, bronze, and green, especially in sunny positions. Water regularly during establishment, then reduce watering as the plant becomes more tolerant of dry conditions. Light pruning after flowering maintains a neat shape and encourages dense, vibrant growth. Mulch annually to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Lophomyrtus 'Pixies' care tips

Lophomyrtus 'Pixie' thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, fertile soil. To maintain its compact form and colourful foliage, prune lightly in late summer or early autumn. Water regularly during dry periods, especially when establishing, and apply mulch to help conserve moisture and reduce weed growth. Feed with a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring. Protect young plants from harsh frost and avoid overly wet or poorly drained sites to prevent root issues.
