Leucospermum Flame Spike, commonly known as the Pincushion Plant, features stunning, pincushion-like flowers. The showy, red-orange flowers are produced during spring, and are impressive. They are great for attracting birds and are often used in floral arrangements. The foliage comprises mid-green leaves, and provides a lovely backdrop to the blooms. It typically grows to 1.5 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of cool climates, moderate frost once established, and extended dry periods. This Pincushion plant is commonly included in mixed plantings, maintained in a container, used in pool gardens, planted around outdoor living areas, or used in the drier areas of the garden. A mass planting on a bank or the like will provide an amazing display and it is a great plant for brightening a dull area or softening a bland wall.
