“Mesmer Eyes” is a variety of Manuka renowned for its pretty flowers. During spring and summer, it produces flowers that open white and age to pink. These have a dark centre and pink stamens, which overall resemble eye lashes, hence the name. The foliage comprises small, dark green leaves which complement the flowers nicely. This evergreen shrub typically grows to 1.5 m tall and 1 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is a hardy plant that will tolerate frost, coastal environments, and a wide range of soil conditions, barring extreme wet or dry. “Mesmer Eyes” is commonly used as a backdrop for smaller plants, included in a mixed planting, maintained in a container, trimmed into a hedge, or planted around outdoor living areas.
