Leptospermum 'Lemon Frost'

Leptospermum 'Lemon Frost' is a fast-growing shrub that produces stunning flowers off semi-weeping stems. Masses of white flowers are borne in such a proliferation that they coat the plant through late winter and spring. They sit neatly amongst the delicate and lemon-scented, mid-green foliage that is held with a pendulous manner as it grows to 1.5 m tall and 2 m wide. Leptospermum 'Lemon Frost' is commonly included in a mixed planting, planted as a backdrop for smaller plants, contained in a “white” garden, or maintained in a container. The delicate foliage and floriferous nature of this shrub make it a fine addition to any garden.

How to grow Leptospermum ‘Lemon Frost’ in NZ

Plant Leptospermum ‘Lemon Frost’ in full sun to light shade in well-draining soil. It thrives in sandy, rocky, or coastal soils and tolerates wind, light frost, and dry conditions once established. Water regularly during the first few months to encourage strong root development, then only in prolonged dry spells. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain a tidy shape and promote fresh growth.

Leptospermum ‘Lemon Frost’ care tips

Feed with a low-phosphorus fertiliser in spring to support healthy foliage and abundant blooms. Mulch around the base to conserve soil moisture and reduce weed competition, keeping mulch away from the crown. This variety is generally pest- and disease-free, making it an excellent choice for easy-care landscaping.

Leptospermum ‘Lemon Frost’ size, spacing, and growth rate

Leptospermum ‘Lemon Frost’ typically reaches 1–1.5 m tall and 1–1.2 m wide. Space plants 1–1.2 m apart for hedging or mass planting. It has a moderate growth rate, forming a dense, bushy habit that provides structure and colour year-round.

Landscaping uses for Leptospermum ‘Lemon Frost’
