How to grow Leptospermum 'Daydream' in NZ

Leptospermum 'Daydream' grows best in a sunny position with soil that drains freely. Choose a site that receives plenty of sunlight and shelter from strong wind. It performs well in most garden soils provided they are not constantly wet. Before planting mix compost into the soil to improve structure and moisture retention. Water regularly during the establishment period so the roots develop strongly.

Leptospermum 'Daydream' care tips

Leptospermum 'Daydream' is easy to care for once established. Water during extended dry periods, especially while the plant is young. Light trimming after flowering will help maintain a compact shape and encourage fresh growth. Apply mulch around the base to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds. Feeding with a general garden fertiliser in spring will support healthy growth and strong flowering.

Leptospermum 'Daydream' size, spacing, and growth rate

Leptospermum 'Daydream' typically grows to about 2 metres tall and around 1.5 metres wide. Growth is moderate and plants gradually develop into dense shrubs with fine foliage. When planting several shrubs allow about 1.5 metres between plants so they have room to develop fully and air can circulate through the foliage. With good sunlight and reasonable soil fertility plants establish quickly.

Landscaping uses for Leptospermum 'Daydream'

Leptospermum 'Daydream' is an excellent shrub for borders, native themed gardens, and flowering feature plantings. It can be planted in groups to create a colourful display or used as a specimen shrub in smaller gardens. The soft pink flowers contrast beautifully with the fine foliage and attract bees to the garden. In New Zealand landscapes it is often used to add seasonal colour and texture.
