Leptospermum Dark Night is a NZ native shrub which is renowned for its pretty flowers and dark foliage. This showy shrub produces masses of purple flowers with a dark centre during spring and summer. The foliage comprises small, dark purple-green leaves which complement the flowers nicely. This evergreen shrub typically grows to 2 m tall and the same wide, though can be contained with trimming. It performs best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. This hardy plant will tolerate dry periods, coastal environments, frost, cool climates, and a wide range of soil conditions, barring the extremes of wet and dry. Leptospermum Dark Night is commonly included in mixed plantings, planted around outdoor living areas, used for screening and shelter, clipped into a hedge, planted as a backdrop for smaller plants, or grown to attract native fauna.
