“Purple King” is an outstanding variety of Lavender owing to its very aesthetic flowers, foliage, and form. This shrub grows compactly, bearing masses of beautiful, purple flower spikes from spring through summer. The fragrant foliage is grey-green and complements the flowers perfectly. This evergreen typically grows to 60 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when planted on a well-drained site in full sun. It is a hardy plant that will tolerate dry periods, moderate frost, and coastal environments but does require protection while it is establishing. “Purple King” is commonly used in cottage gardens, included in borders and mixed plantings, planted around outdoor living areas, trimmed into a low hedge, or maintained in a container. A mass planting on a bank or the like gives a truly dramatic display with this variety. For hedging space plants 30 cm apart.
