“Gray Lady” is a variety of Lavender that grows as a compact shrub and carries masses of relatively long, purple-blue flower spikes through spring and summer. The foliage is grey-blue and contrasts nicely with the darker flowers. Both the flowers and foliage produce a lovely aroma when cut or brushed against. This evergreen typically grows to 60 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when planted on a well-drained site in full sun. It is a hardy plant that will tolerate dry conditions but does require protection from heavy frost when young. “Gray Lady” is commonly used in cottage gardens, included in mixed plantings and borders, trimmed into a hedge, or maintained in a container. For hedging space plants 40 cm apart. A mass planting either as a groundcover or on a bank will give a dramatic display.
