“Dilly Dilly” is a variety of Lavender that grows as a compact shrub and carries masses of relatively long, blue-purple flower spikes through spring and summer. The foliage is green with a touch of grey and is a lovely complement to the darker flowers. Both the flowers and foliage produce a lovely aroma when cut or brushed against. This evergreen typically grows to 60 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when planted on a well-drained site in full sun. It is a hardy plant that will tolerate dry conditions but does require protection from heavy frosts, particularly when young. “Dilly Dilly” is commonly used in cottage gardens, included in mixed plantings and borders, or planted around outdoor living areas. A mass planting either as a groundcover or on a bank gives a truly dramatic display.
