Iochroma tuberosa is a bushy, evergreen shrub grown for its colourful flowers and lush foliage. It bears showy clusters of purple, tubular flowers with flared tips from summer through autumn. These are complemented with deep green foliage. It typically grows to 2 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is hardy to a light frost only and short periods of dry once established. This shrub is commonly included in mixed plantings, planted around outdoor living areas, used as a lovely backdrop for smaller plants, or included in cottage and tropical gardens. It is fantastic for softening a bland wall.
