Ilex altaclarensis Hendersonii, commonly known as the Smooth Leaf Holly, is a variety selected for is showy foliage and colourful berries. This shrub carries glossy, dark green leaves with a spiny edge and becomes adorned with small, white flowers in summer. The flowers result in masses of red berries that last into winter. This evergreen grows with a dense and upright form to about 4 m tall and 2 m wide, though it can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this Smooth Leaf Holly are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant dry periods, cool climates, frost, and coastal conditions.
