It performs best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site, and is tolerant of dry periods, cool climates, moderate frost, and coastal environments. The relatively fine texture of Ilex Convexa sets it apart from other landscape plants making it ideal for mixed plantings, topiary, borders, or maintaining in a container. This Japanese Holly is often trimmed into a ball and used to border entrances, added to pool gardens and other living areas, or trimmed into a hedge.
