Hypericum perforatum, commonly called St. Johns Wort, is a shrub grown for its attractive foliage and flowers. It carries mid green leaves which become adorned with yellow flowers during spring and summer. It typically grows to 1 m tall and the same wide, growing best in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of dry soil conditions as well as coastal climates though young plants should be protected from frost and strong winds. Hypericum perforatum is commonly added to a mixed planting, planted around outdoor living areas such as pools, included in cottage gardens, grown as an informal or formal hedge, or mass planted on a bank.
