Hydrangea veitchii Key Features

Hydrangea veitchii is known for its subtle beauty, showcasing flattened lacecap flowers from late spring through summer. The outer sterile florets are pure white, surrounding clusters of small fertile flowers that may appear pink or blue depending on soil pH. This hydrangea typically grows to 1.5–2 metres tall, with arching stems and mid-green foliage that takes on yellow tones in autumn. It thrives in dappled light and brings a refined, woodland feel to gardens. It also attracts pollinators, adding ecological value to your landscape.

Hydrangea veitchii Care Guide

Plant in moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. It prefers a position in part shade or dappled sun, particularly protected from the harsh afternoon heat. Water regularly during dry spells to keep the roots cool and hydrated. Apply mulch in spring to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Prune lightly after flowering to remove spent blooms and maintain shape, but avoid heavy pruning as this may reduce next year’s flowers. A slow-release fertiliser in spring will support healthy growth and flowering.
