Hydrangea quercifolia features large, white flower heads with each head comprising open flowers which surround a core of florets. These are borne from summer through autumn and contrast nicely with the dark green ‘oak-leaf’ like foliage. It grows as a multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub with a rounded form to about 1.5 m tall and the same wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Best growth is achieved in a full sun or partial shade position on a well-drained, sheltered site with a slightly acidic soil. This Hydrangea is hardy to cool climates, frost, and short periods of dry. Hydrangea quercifolia is a great variety for mixed plantings, underplanting larger trees, maintaining in a container, growing as an informal hedge, using as a backdrop for smaller plants, or for including in cottage and “white” gardens.
