Hydrangea paniculata ‘Phantom’ key features

Hydrangea paniculata 'Phantom' is a deciduous shrub renowned for its massive, cone-shaped flower heads that can reach up to 37 cm long. Blooming creamy white in mid-summer and maturing to soft pink, the flowers are held upright on sturdy stems that resist drooping. This hardy, upright plant grows 1.8–3 m tall and wide, making it ideal as a feature shrub, hedge, or in mixed borders. Its long blooming season, strong architecture, and pollinator-friendly flowers make it a standout in any garden.

Hydrangea paniculata ‘Phantom’ care

Hydrangea paniculata 'Phantom' grows best in full sun to partial shade and thrives in rich, moist, well-drained soil. Regular watering is essential during dry periods, especially while the plant is establishing. Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring to promote vigorous growth and large flower heads. Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the plant and encourage flowering on new wood. 'Phantom' is low maintenance, frost-hardy, and performs reliably across most of New Zealand.
