Hydrangea 'Perfection'

How to grow Hydrangea 'Perfection' in NZ

Hydrangea 'Perfection' grows best in partial shade with fertile well drained soil rich in organic matter. Morning sun with protection from strong afternoon heat is ideal for maintaining healthy foliage and flower quality. Water regularly during establishment and throughout dry periods to keep the soil consistently moist. Applying mulch around the base helps conserve moisture and improve soil structure. This hydrangea performs well throughout many regions of New Zealand and benefits from shelter against drying winds. Feeding during spring will encourage vigorous growth and abundant flowering through summer.

Hydrangea 'Perfection' care tips

Hydrangea 'Perfection' is relatively easy to care for and rewards regular maintenance with strong flowering performance. Water deeply during dry weather to support healthy blooms and lush foliage growth. Mulching around the root zone helps maintain cool moist soil conditions and suppress weeds. Remove spent flower heads and lightly prune after flowering to maintain shape and encourage vigorous new growth. Feeding with a balanced fertiliser during spring may improve flower production and foliage quality. Protect plants from severe frost in colder areas while they are becoming established.

Hydrangea 'Perfection' size, spacing, and growth rate

Hydrangea 'Perfection' typically grows to around 1.5 to 2 metres tall with a similar spread, forming a dense rounded shrub with lush foliage and large flower heads. Growth is moderate under moist fertile conditions with partial shade and regular watering. Plants should generally be spaced around 1.5 metres apart to allow healthy airflow and canopy development. The manageable size makes this hydrangea suitable for borders, feature planting, and larger containers.
