‘Montgomery’ is an outstanding Hydrangea variety that features very large flower heads which are coloured purple-blue. These are borne from summer through autumn and sit perfectly above the dark green foliage. It grows as a multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub with a rounded form to about 1.2 m tall and the same wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Best growth is achieved in a full sun or partial shade position on a well-drained, sheltered site with a slightly acidic soil. This Hydrangea is hardy to cool climates, frost, and short periods of dry. ‘Montgomery’ is a great variety for mixed plantings, underplanting larger trees, maintaining in a container, growing as an informal hedge, planting as a backdrop for smaller plants, or using to contrast with other leaf forms and flower colours.
