Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Variegata’ is a handsome variety that features lovely flowers and foliage. The flower heads comprise blue florets surrounded by small, white flowers. These are borne from summer through autumn and sit nicely above the variegated, dark green and cream foliage. It grows as a multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub with a rounded form to about 1.2 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best growth is achieved in a full sun or partial shade position on a well-drained, sheltered site with a slightly acidic soil. This Hydrangea is hardy to cool climates, frost, and short periods of dry. ‘Variegata’ is a great variety for adding to a mixed planting, maintaining in a container, including in a cottage garden, or for planting around an outdoor living area.
