Hydrangea ‘Holstein’ is a lovely variety that features large and showy, sky blue flower heads when grown in an acidic soil or salmon pink coloured heads when grown on an alkaline soil. These are borne through summer and autumn and are complemented with large and lush, green leaves. It grows as a multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub with a rounded form to about 1.5 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site with a slightly acidic soil. It is hardy to cool climates, frost, and short periods of dry. Hydrangea ‘Holstein’ is a great variety for including in a mixed planting, planting around the base of larger trees, maintaining in a container, growing as an informal hedge, or for planting around outdoor living areas.
