Hibiscus Coelestis is grown for its pretty flowers through summer and autumn. The flowers are single and coloured violet with a rose base. They are held on upright, slender branches above the glossy green leaves. It typically grows to 2.5 m tall and 2 m wide and performs best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. This Rose Of Sharon variety is tolerant of short periods of dry as well as moderate frost. In cool climates it may become deciduous or partially deciduous during winter. Hibiscus Coelestis is commonly grown as a showy specimen, used as an informal hedge, planted for screening, included in a mixed planting, added to a tropical garden, or planted around outdoor living areas.
