Tropical hibiscus thrives in warm, frost-free parts of New Zealand and is best grown in full sun for maximum flowering. Choose a well-drained, fertile soil enriched with compost before planting. Shelter plants from strong winds, which can damage buds and flowers. In cooler regions, grow in large pots that can be moved to a sunny, protected position or indoors over winter.
