Hebe pinguifolia Sutherlandii Gold is a NZ native Hebe that grows as a compact and tidy evergreen shrub to about 50 cm tall and 80 cm wide. It features green-gold leaves which are held tightly on short, slender stems. It becomes adorned with white flowers which are borne prolifically on short spikes though summer. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It will tolerate frost, coastal conditions, wind, and periods of dry, but does not do well on wet, heavy soils. Hebe Sutherlandii Gold is a great plant for border planting, adding to mixed plantings, planting around the base of a tree, including in a rock garden, or mass planting either as a groundcover or on a bank which will afford an impressive display.
