Strobilanthes dyeriana, commonly known as Persian Shield, grows best in NZ in a warm, sheltered position with bright, indirect light or partial shade. Plant in fertile, free-draining soil and water regularly to keep the soil lightly moist, especially during dry periods. Protect from frost and cold winds to preserve the vivid purple foliage. Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks in the growing season and pinch back stems to encourage bushier growth.
