How to grow Hebe cupressoides in NZ

Hebe cupressoides grows best in a sunny or partly shaded position with well drained soil. Choose a site with good airflow and improve the soil with compost before planting if needed. It performs well in a range of soil types and tolerates coastal conditions. Water regularly during establishment then reduce watering once plants are settled.

Hebe cupressoides care tips

Hebe cupressoides is easy to care for once established. It is relatively drought tolerant and requires minimal watering. Light trimming can be done to maintain shape if required. Apply mulch around the base to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds while keeping it clear of the stems. Feeding is generally not required but can be done lightly in spring.

Hebe cupressoides size, spacing, and growth rate

Hebe cupressoides typically grows to around 1 to 2 metres tall and spreads about 1 to 1.5 metres wide. Growth is moderate and plants develop into upright shrubs with fine foliage. When planting several plants allow around 80 cm to 1 metre between them so they have space to develop fully and maintain airflow.

Landscaping uses for Hebe cupressoides

Hebe cupressoides is ideal for borders, rock gardens, and native planting schemes. The fine textured foliage provides contrast and works well with broader leaved plants. It can be used as a feature shrub or planted in groups for impact. In New Zealand gardens it is often used for low maintenance structure and year round interest.
