“Champion” is an exquisite variety of Hebe which is grown for its foliage and flowers. It grows as a compact shrub and carries rounded, glossy, mid-green foliage. From summer through autumn, masses of blue-lilac spikes are produced which gradually fade to white with age. It typically grows to 75 cm tall and the same wide, and performs best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, moderate wind, dry periods, and coastal conditions. “Champion” looks most effective when planted in clusters and is commonly included in a mixed planting, used in borders, planted around outdoor living areas, maintained in a container, or added to a cottage garden. It is also well suited to being mass planted on a bank or the like.
