Hebe Black Satin is a popular variety of Hebe due to both its colourful foliage and flowers. It grows as a rounded shrub carrying glossy, dark purple foliage with a green undertone. The foliage is adorned by spectacular sprays of light pink flowers through spring and summer as it grows to about 1 m tall and the same wide. Hebe Black Satin is a versatile plant that is often used in mixed and border plantings, or planted around outdoor living areas. A mass planting either on a bank or as a groundcover affords an amazing display with this plant.

Hebe Black Satin plant care

The most important part of caring for Hebe Black Satin is to make sure they have a well-drained soil that does not become waterlogged at any time. This, along with over-watering, are the main causes of plants to fail to perform or die. The plants can be lightly trimmed any time but this is best undertaken in summer. The final elements are to feed the plants in spring with a general fertiliser and keep an eye on watering so they do not dry out. Keep an eye out for scale insect and mealy bugs and treat with an appropriate agrichemical if necessary.
