Griselinia littoralis variegata, commonly known as Broadleaf or Kapuka, is a variegated variety of Griselinia that is both popular and highly aesthetic. This NZ native shrub carries dark green leaves with a heavy cream edge. This fast-growing evergreen typically reaches 2 m tall and the same wide though can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this plant are achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of wind, coastal conditions, dry periods, cool climates, and frost. This Broadleaf Griselinia makes an excellent hedge and is also commonly included in a mixed planting, used for screening, grown as a backdrop for smaller plants, or planted around outdoor living areas. This is a dependable plant for any garden which can tolerate tough conditions and still look great. For a Griselinia littoralis hedge, space the plants 50 cm apart.
