Genista monosperma

How to grow Genista monosperma in NZ

Plant Genista monosperma in full sun with well drained soil. It performs well in sandy and coastal soils and requires little watering once established. Avoid poorly drained sites and mulch after planting to help conserve moisture while young plants establish.

Genista monosperma care tips

Prune lightly after flowering to maintain a tidy shape and encourage bushy growth. Feed with a general purpose slow release fertiliser in spring if needed. Once established this shrub is hardy, drought tolerant, and requires very little ongoing maintenance.

Genista monosperma size, spacing, and growth rate

Genista monosperma typically grows 2 to 3 metres tall and 2 to 3 metres wide. Space plants about 2.5 metres apart to allow their natural form to develop. Growth is relatively fast under warm, sunny conditions.
