Fuchsia arborescens is an evergreen shrub favoured for its pretty flowers which are produced almost year-round. Large and showy clusters of lilac-pink flowers are borne throughout the shrub, and are great for attracting birds. The glossy, dark green leaves provide a pleasant backdrop to the flowers. It will generally be evergreen but in cooler climates it may be deciduous. It typically grows to 2.5 m tall and 2 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. It will tolerate moderate frost and should not be allowed to dry out during summer. Fuchsia arborescens is commonly included in a mixed planting, used as backdrop for smaller plants, added to a cottage garden, or planted to brighten a dull corner. This is a low maintenance and very rewarding plant.
