How to grow Euonymus 'Green Spire' in NZ

Euonymus 'Green Spire' grows best in full sun to partial shade and adapts to a wide range of well drained soils. In NZ, it performs well in both urban and coastal gardens, tolerating wind and variable conditions once established. Plant in fertile soil with added compost to encourage healthy growth. Water regularly during the first year to establish strong roots. With its hardy nature and minimal needs, 'Green Spire' is a reliable shrub for diverse garden settings.

Euonymus 'Green Spire' care tips

Caring for Euonymus 'Green Spire' is straightforward and low maintenance. Trim lightly in spring or late summer to maintain its neat, columnar shape. Apply a slow release fertiliser in spring to support fresh growth and glossy foliage. Mulching around the base helps retain moisture and suppress weeds. Water during prolonged dry spells to keep the plant at its best. With these simple steps, 'Green Spire' will remain an attractive and long lasting feature in NZ gardens.

Euonymus 'Green Spire' size, spacing, and growth rate

Euonymus 'Green Spire' typically grows 1 to 1.5 metres tall and around 30 to 60 cm wide, forming a slender upright shrub. For hedging or row planting, space plants about 50 cm apart for a dense effect. Growth is moderate, with the plant keeping its narrow habit naturally, needing little pruning. Its manageable size and formal appearance make it ideal for small gardens, courtyards, or as a striking vertical accent in mixed plantings across NZ landscapes.

Landscaping uses for Euonymus 'Green Spire'

Euonymus 'Green Spire' is highly valued in landscaping for its vertical form and glossy foliage. It is perfect for creating low, narrow hedges, lining pathways, or adding vertical accents in garden beds. Its upright habit makes it suitable for small gardens or courtyards where space is limited. It also performs well in containers, framing entrances or patios. With its versatility and year round structure, 'Green Spire' enhances both formal and contemporary garden styles in NZ.
