Eugenia myrtifolia ‘Variegata’, commonly known as Australian Brush Cherry, is a variety of Lilly Pilly grown for its attractive and variegated foliage. The new foliage is bronze-red and matures to deep green with a white margin. The leaves are small and produced on a dense network of branches. Small, white flowers are produced in summer and turn into a rose-purple berry. The combination of berries and variegated foliage is picturesque. It typically grows to 3 m tall and 2 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance is achieved when grown in full sun on a well-drained site, though it is a hardy plant that will tolerate dry periods, moderate frost, and coastal conditions. Eugenia myrtifolia ‘Variegata’ is commonly used for hedging, screening, as a backdrop for smaller plants, as a feature plant, in mixed plantings, or maintained in a container. As a potted plant it looks great on a patio or around pool and barbecue areas.
