Escallonia ‘Iveyi’ is renowned for both its attractive foliage and quaint flowers. Small and glossy, green leaves give way to clusters of lightly scented, white flowers through spring and summer. It is an easily grown shrub with a bushy habit and typically grows to 2.5 m tall and 1.5 m wide and can trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this evergreen is achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained site though it is hardy to moderate frost and dry periods. In NZ gardens Escallonia ‘Iveyi’ is commonly included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, included in cottage and “white” gardens, planted around outdoor living areas, or trimmed into a hedge with plants spaced 50 cm apart.
