Field Scarlet Escallonia

The Field Scarlet Escallonia is renowned for both its attractive foliage and quaint flowers. Glossy, green foliage gives way to clusters of lightly scented, scarlet red flowers in spring and summer. It is an easily grown shrub with a bushy habit and typically grows to 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide. Best performance is achieved when planted in full sun on a well-drained site though it is hardy to frost, wind, and coastal conditions. The Field Scarlet Escallonia is commonly included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, included in cottage gardens, planted around outdoor living areas, or trimmed into a hedge with plants spaced 50 cm apart.
