Commonly known as The Giant Spear Lily, this Australian native is grown for its amazing flowers and attractive foliage. Long stems up to 5 m long in spring give rise to showy, red-orange flowers that are great for attracting birds. The stems often start to droop as the weight of the flowers comes on. The foliage is a rosette of long, sword like leaves that can reach 3 m long as it spreads up to 2 m wide It grows best in full on in a well-drained soil, and is tolerant of extended dry periods as well as coastal environments. The Giant Spear Lily looks great in mixed plantings, especially when planted en masse. It is also often used as a backdrop for smaller plants, planted around pools, or included in tropical gardens.
