Matagouri
Discaria toumatou is a heavily branched, thorny, NZ native shrub that typically grows to 4 m tall and 3 m wide. It has small, leathery leaves with thorns on all stems. The flowers are tiny, white, and do not have petals. This is a very hardy plant that grows well in full sun through shade conditions but prefers a well-drained site. This plant can be trimmed into a hedge, included in mixed plantings as an unusual specimen, or planted along a fence line to deter through traffic.
