Cotinus Red Spirit Details

Cotinus Red Spirit is a variety of the commonly known, Smokebush and is grown for its foliage and interesting flowers. It gets its common name from the billowy hairs on spent flower clusters which turn red in summer and resemble a puff of smoke. The foliage comprises dark green leaves with a blue undertone which are held off multiple, upright stems. As autumn progresses the leaves develop colourful, purple tones before falling. It typically grows to 3 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted on a well-drained, sheltered site, in full sun. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and short periods of dry. Cotinus Red Spirit is commonly grown as a specimen, trimmed into a hedge, maintained in a courtyard or cottage garden, or planted anywhere the vibrancy and beauty of this plant can be enjoyed.
