Corokia ‘Yellow Wonder’ is an evergreen, NZ native shrub grown for its foliage, flowers, and berries. It features small and glossy, dark green leaves held on slender stems. The foliage is adorned with masses of small, yellow flowers in spring which give rise to masses of bright yellow berries in late summer. The berries are great for attracting birds and other wildlife. It grows quickly with an upright habit to about 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Trimming encourages new growth and helps keep the plant dense. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is a hardy plant that will tolerate wind, moderate frost, coastal conditions, and dry periods once established. Corokia ‘Yellow Wonder’ is commonly trimmed into a hedge but also makes a great addition to a mixed planting. It is also well suited for growing on those ‘difficult to grow’ sites where an attractive native is desired.
