Corokia Red Wonder

Corokia virgata Red Wonder

Corokia Red Wonder is a NZ native shrub featuring narrow, olive-green foliage. New foliage has a layer of felt which gives the plant an overall grey colouring. Small, yellow flowers are produced in spring and are followed by masses of bright red berries in late summer as it reaches 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide. Corokia Red Wonder is commonly trimmed into a hedge, added to a mixed planting, used on challenging sites, or planted to border an entrance.

How to grow a Corokia Red Wonder hedge

Corokia Red Wonder makes for a fabulous hedge and it all begins with getting the correct plant spacing. To achieve a dense hedge quickly, the plants should be spaced 45 cm apart. If you space them wider the hedge will take longer to fill in and become wider overall. The best Corokia Red Wonder hedges are lightly trimmed during spring and again in autumn. Be sure to feed them in spring with tree fertiliser to maintain the health and integrity of the hedge.
