Corokia ‘Phantom’ is a hardy, NZ native shrub grown for its colourful foliage and interesting form. It grows as a mass of wiry, tangled, silver-grey branches carrying small, brown-black leaves. Small, star like, mildly fragrant, yellow flowers are produced in summer and followed by small, red-orange berries which attract birds. It typically grows to 1.2 m tall and 1 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with ‘Phantom’ are achieved when grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. This Corokia and can tolerate strong winds, frost, coastal conditions and dry soils once established. It is commonly used as low to medium sized hedge but makes a great addition to mixed plantings, particularly on those difficult to grow sites.
