Cornus Mountain Fire is a variety of the commonly known, Dogwood, and is a shrub that features brightly coloured stems which are most pronounced in winter. This deciduous shrub forms a thicket of slender stems hosting dark green foliage. The leaves develop golden tones in autumn before falling and revealing the orange and red stems. Fragrant, tiny, white flowers are borne in late spring and are followed by purple berries which are great for attracting birds. It typically grows to 2.5 m tall and 1.5 m wide and should be trimmed each year to encourage the more colourful, younger stems to grow. Best performance is achieved when grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates. Cornus Mountain Fire is a great plant for mixed plantings as well as cluster planting to add a dramatic winter display.
