Coprosma ‘Poor Knights’, commonly known as Taupata, is a NZ native shrub that is often used as a ground cover plant. It carries glossy, green leaves which are held somewhat loosely on spreading stems. This ground cover coprosma typically grows to 50 cm tall and 1 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. Taupata is tolerant of coastal conditions, moderate frost, wind, and most soil conditions, except at the extremes of wet and dry. Coprosma ‘Poor Knights’ is commonly included in coastal gardens, mass planted either as a groundcover or on a bank, grown around the base of larger trees, or included in a border.
