“Karo Red” is a NZ native shrub grown for its colourful foliage and hardy nature. The lovely textured leaves are red-black with a gloss finish. They are held densely on spreading branches as it grows to 75 cm tall and the same wide. It performs best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site, and will tolerate moderate frost as well as most soil types, barring the extremes of wet and dry. “Karo Red” is commonly trimmed into a hedge, included in mixed plantings, maintained in a container, used to soften a dull or plain wall, or planted around outdoor living areas such as pools and the like. This is a hardy plant that is very rewarding and easy to grow.
