Clianthus maximus, commonly known as Kakabeak, is a NZ native shrub that produces masses of beak like flowers during winter and spring. The showy, red flowers literally transform the plant and are complemented with mid-green foliage as it grows to 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide. Clianthus maximus is commonly included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, grown to mask a bland wall, planted around outdoor living areas, maintained in a container, or mass planted for an impressive display.
