Cistus crispus, commonly known as Rock Rose, is grown for its pretty flowers in near arid conditions. This variety is evergreen shrub with a rounded, bushy form and bears purple-red, saucer-shaped flowers with yellow stamens. The flowers don’t last long but are produced from spring through summer above the soft, mid-green foliage. It typically grows to 70 cm tall and 1 m wide, performing best when positioned in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of coastal conditions, frost, and extended dry periods. Cistus crispus is often used for adding interest and texture to the garden. It is great for including in mixed borders or planting en masse as a single variety or with other Cistus varieties.
