Chusquea gigantea is a variety of Bamboo from South America that features elegant stems and foliage. It is a clump-forming bamboo that produces tall stems with distinctive rings on the stems. The stems host lush green foliage as it grows to about 7 m tall and 4 m wide. In cooler climates in may grow smaller and conversely it will grow larger in hot and humid climates. This bamboo grows best in full sun on a well-drained site with some shelter. It is hardy to frost and cool climates as well as short periods of dry. Chusquea gigantea is commonly used for screening, as a backdrop for smaller plants, added to tropical and pool gardens, or used in a modern design to complement the architecture of a new build.
