Choisya ternata, commonly known as Mexican Orange Blossom, this is an evergreen shrub grown for its attractive foliage and pleasant flowers. The lush and glossy, dark green leaves are borne as clusters of 3 to 13 leaflets and release a mild fragrance when crushed. The foliage is adorned with star-shaped, pure white flowers from spring through summer which are also gently scented. It grows with a rounded shape to about 1.5 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this plant are achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of dry periods and moderate frost once established. Choisya ternata is a popular and low maintenance plant in NZ gardens and is commonly included in mixed plantings and borders, planted around outdoor living areas, grown as an informal hedge, or used to brighten up a bland area.
