Chaenomeles 'Pink Storm'

How to grow Chaenomeles 'Pink Storm' in NZ

Chaenomeles 'Pink Storm' grows best in full sun or partial shade and performs well in fertile, free draining soil. A sunny position encourages the strongest flowering display. Plant into well prepared soil and water regularly while the root system establishes. Once established, it is hardy and tolerant of periods of dry weather. Apply a general garden fertiliser during spring to encourage healthy growth. Mulching around the root zone helps retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and provide favourable conditions for steady establishment and reliable flowering.

Chaenomeles 'Pink Storm' care tips

Chaenomeles 'Pink Storm' is relatively easy to maintain once established. Water young plants regularly and provide additional moisture during prolonged dry periods. Apply a general garden fertiliser during spring to support healthy foliage and abundant flowering. Prune after flowering if required to maintain the desired size and shape, removing damaged, congested, or poorly positioned stems. Avoid excessive pruning because this can reduce the following flowering display. Mulch around the root zone to conserve moisture and suppress weeds, while keeping the mulch clear of the main stems.

Chaenomeles 'Pink Storm' size, spacing, and growth rate

Chaenomeles 'Pink Storm' generally grows to around 1 to 1.5 m tall and a similar width, forming a compact and densely branched shrub. It has a moderate growth rate and steadily develops into a substantial garden plant once established. Space plants approximately 1 m apart for a dense informal hedge or allow more room when growing individual specimens. Pruning after flowering can maintain a smaller size where required. Its manageable proportions make Chaenomeles 'Pink Storm' suitable for borders, smaller gardens, courtyards, and larger landscape plantings.
