Cestrum 'Newellii' Restrictions in New Zealand

Cestrum ‘Newellii’ is classed as an unwanted organism in New Zealand under the Biosecurity Act 1993. It cannot be sold, propagated, or distributed because it poses a significant environmental risk. Like other Cestrum species, it spreads easily, invades natural areas, and displaces native plants. Its berries and foliage are also highly toxic to livestock, pets, and humans if ingested. These dangers mean strict restrictions are enforced to stop its spread across New Zealand.
