Ceanothus roweanus is a rounded shrub grown for its amazing flowers, foliage, and form. It grows densely carrying narrow, dark green foliage. The foliage is adorned with red-purple buds which open to reveal clusters of blue flowers in spring, literally transforming the plant into a wonder of colour. It typically grows to 2.5 m tall and 2 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. It prefers a sunny position with good drainage and will tolerate coastal conditions and frost once established. Ceanothus roweanus is commonly included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, or trimmed into a hedge. Trimming after flowering will help keep the foliage dense and fresh.
